Scoliosis Surgery – Is it worth the cost?

Sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease

This is a ten-hour surgery in which they will open on your side and back. In my particular intervention they would put three rods in my back and hold them together with five screws. To help my bones grow, they took one of my ribs and six of my records, and they also took a bone graft from my hip down (right on my ass). They took the bone and served three cages that hold the bones are between the vertebrae …..

If it sounds, macabre, remember this is only the beginning. Corrective spinal surgery for scoliosis can be a painful enough for adolescent patients and their parents. Spinal surgery often involves a large amount of tissue trauma and bone can cause pain that the patient has shed just to live with.

Worse, there is no guarantee that despite the excessive cost of spinal surgery, the results are as expected. In many cases, the cure can be worse than the disease.

So why do all scoliosis patients continue to opt for spinal surgery?

This is a question a million dollars! I was baffled by it and found that over the years, we have veered so far from the traditional modes of treatment and scalpel-free medicines, we have forgotten that there was “miraculous” recoveries of scoliosis Even when doctors don ‘t handle any scalpel.

I was put on intensive research and during my years of practice and experience with hundreds of patients with scoliosis, I came to discover that there are time tested non-surgical treatment of scoliosis.

Non-surgical scoliosis correction offers a combination of effective, safe and painless non-surgical treatments for various disorders of the spine, such as neck problems, pain in lower back and herniated disc.

Non-surgical techniques for scoliosis correction protocols and attracts the best methods from around the world, such as the Schroth method pioneered in Germany, the system developed in Israel and Vertetrac as vibrational therapy, physical therapy and used in the United States to correct curves of the spine (scoliosis), back pain, sciatica and herniated, with very encouraging results.

The biggest advantage of non-surgical scoliosis correction is in addition to being painless, it is more profitable (cost a fraction of the cost of spinal surgery) and there are no side effects! The only requirement is that you start taking the commitment to follow through the exercise protocols and recommended treatment over a period of time.

Non-surgical treatment consists primarily of scoliosis:

Nutritional therapy

We are what we eat. As most people are well aware, good nutrition and a balanced diet are important components of overall health. What may surprise people with back problems is that diet, nutrition and maintaining a healthy weight also play a major role in the back – including the prevention of many problems and wound healing. Bones, muscles and other structures of the spine are good nutrition and vitamins so they are strong enough to support the body and to perform their other functions. With these dietary recommendations, patients can return to friendly vitamins and nutrients in their diet.

Body Balance Training & Posture Now there is a huge body of research on outpatient physical therapy, intensive inpatient rehabilitation, and bracing it proved the effectiveness of exercise in the treatment of scoliosis. An article by researchers in Turkey, Saudi Medical Journal on the Schroth exercise therapy in three dimensions — that I use in my clinic for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis — found that after six weeks, six months and one year of therapy, all patients had an increase in muscle strength. Moreover, they also reported a significant improvement in their postural defects.

Chiropractic

Children with mild scoliosis treated with chiropractic adjustments have shown a reduction in spinal curvature, according to the findings of a three-year, $ 143 000 study funded by the Foundation for Education and Research Chiropractic .

It is imperative that suffer from scoliosis is treated by a chiropractor trained with good knowledge in the treatment of scoliosis. Too often, manual therapist and untrained will try to “click and” crack “of the spine to grow up. Although this method works for a normal spine of a person he used to a spine, but may actually increase scolioctic scoliosis.

State of the art medical devices

There are several state-of-the-art medical devices that I use in my clinic, namely:

Vibration Therapy

Russian cosmonauts first investigated the vibrating platforms as a way to maintain bone and muscle mass while in external space.I began using vibrational therapy as a way to recycle the control of the brain to the muscles more efficiently. When you stand on the vibration machine, your postural muscles have to make several quick adjustments – up to 50 times per second to adapt to the stimuli and balance accordingly. For this reason, exercises and spinal rehabilitation performed with vibration therapy may be as much as three times more effective if they were made alone!

Meditrac & Vertetrac

This is a huge improvement over traditional traction devices developed by Dr. L. Stabholz and Dr. A. Grober. These physicians found that the application of traction differential for patients with a poor analgesic (scoliosis sciatica) helped restore the normal upright position and decrease muscle spasms, often leading to complete recovery. Meditrac & Vertetrac are now widely used in the rehabilitation process of patients and blood flow increases to the tissues and intervertebral discs to my clinic.

Shockwave Therapy Shockwave Therapy involves the application of high intensity ultrasonic acoustic radiation for the treatment of certain musculoskeletal disorders. The machine focuses sound waves of high-energy injuries with a protective cushion that breaks down scar tissue and calcifications in the region, resulting in structural changes in the tissue, stimulating bone growth, tissue regeneration lost and calcium absorption by the body, all of which are great for full or partial recovery of scoliosis.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression FDA This technology relieves pain by enlarging the space between the discs. The treatment was found to be remarkably effective in severe cases of herniation, degeneration, arthritis, stenosis and pressure on the nerve root. In a clinical study conducted by the Orthopedic Technological Review in 2004, 86% of cases experienced spinal pain relief with disc decompression.

When is the best time to treat my scoliosis?

It is always advisable to correct your scoliosis or back problems as early as possible before it spirals out of control. Thanks to timely intervention, we are able to reduce the curve of a perfect 5 degrees or less, in defiance of the disease rather than tame.

The only thing to keep in mind is that while the surgery is usually within a day or two in the hospital followed by rehabilitation later, my program requires much more consistent efforts, dedication and time. The advantage is that its much cheaper and safer than surgery.

Just think about it. More than 650,000 surgeries are performed each year for back pain in the U.S. which cost more than $ 20 billion per year. “Is the money not be put to some better use,” questions Dr Gunnar Andersson, a former chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Rush. Andersson and his team have found that often there is no link between spending on health care for people and their health effects. This means that we often spend money on surgeries that are not necessary.
